What is used to remove the tattoos and how does it work?
The high powered Palomar Q-YAG5 Laser removes unwanted tattoos with a highly focused beam of laser light. The light passes through the outer layer of the skin and is absorbed by the tattoo ink.

How many treatments will it take for the tattoo to respond?
A tattoo's color, depth, and chemical composition of the ink will affect how it responds to laser light. The amount of treatments will be contingent on those factors.
A tattoo with blacks, oranges, and reds will usually respond faster with our Q-Yag laser. Blues and greens generally take several more treatments. If the black ink has been mixed with blues and greens, the black will fade leaving a slight trace of blue or green.
Also, if the tattoo was professionally or amateurally done will also matter. Professionally done tattoos tend to be deeper and darker then those done by an amateur.
How old is the tattoo? Usually if the tattoo is older, it will have been somewhat faded by the sun. The response is typically quicker with these tattoos. If the tattoo is new, the ink will be deeper and darker, therefore response will be slower.
How long does the treatment take?
Depending on the size and the location of the tattoo, each treatment usually takes 10-30 minutes. Some faint tattoos will fade completely after only one treatment, though most may require five treatments or more. Treatments are spaced six weeks apart to give your body sufficient time to fully eliminate loosened particles of ink.
Medications
We require all patients to discontinue all photosensitive medications before receiving any laser treatments. Medications such as tetracycline or accutane, etc., are some of those that should be discontinued.
Sun Exposure
If you require multiple laser treatments, you should refrain from the sun during the time you are treated. after your treatment is complete, you need to refrain from exposure for 6-8 weeks to avoid any complications.
After Care
After the treatment, the area will appear white and swell slightly. Patient's may also experience scabbing, redness, bleeding, blistering, and even a burning sensation after the treatment. This is all normal. We recommend using aquaphor after treatment. Use only a mild soap and do not soak the area treated.
